Does My Child Have a Vision Problem?

Why is my bright child struggling in school?
Why does it take hours for my child to do assignments that could easily be completed in minutes?
If you ask these or similar questions, your child may have an undetected vision problem.

Signs That May Indicate a Vision Problem:

- One eye crosses in or out
- Blurry vision at any distance
- Double vision, or "the words run together"
- Headaches with near work
- Skips or Repeats lines while reading
- Vision is worse at the end of the day
- Difficulty copying from the board
- Reverses letters or words
- Frequent rubbing or blinking of the eyes
- Avoids close work
- Likes to get very close to book
- Covers one eye when doing close work
- Tilting head or turning head (when looking at close work)
- Squinting one or both eyes
- Uses finger for marker when reading

Signs that can be secondary to a vision problem:

Poor eye-hand coordination skills
- Smart in everything but school
- A drop in scholastic or sports performance
- Fatigue, frustration, stress
- Short attention span or daydreaming
- Poor reading
