20/20 is Not Enough
The statement that 20/20 eyesight is adequate to meet the demands in today's world of strenuous education and computer use is a myth.
What does 20/20 mean?
If you have 20/20 eyesight then you can see the size of letters on the eye chart that a person should be able to see at 20 feet.
Being able to see the eye chart from 20 feet, but having 20/20 vision means just that - you can see the eye chart for the short period of time that it takes to complete the eye exam. It doesn't tell us if you have the visual skills required to read for any length of time (beyond that required for your exam) nor does it tell you if you have the skills required for computer work or proper function in the classroom. If any of these visual skills are deficient, the person or child will take longer to perform school tasks, homework, or work on the computer than is necessary. In addition you may experience difficulties with comprehension.
See our symptoms chart to detect a possible vision problem, or call (918) 745-9662 to schedule a developmental vision examination.
Educational studies have shown that eighty percent of what we learn is through vision. As many as 1 in 5 children have a vision problem that can hinder their ability to learn.
